GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The Men's Track & Field squad opened up its official indoor campaign this past weekend competing in the Mike Lints Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State University.

"This meet was basically just an opportunity to get our feet wet and to see where we are at, " said Men's Track and Field Coach Dante Ottolini.

Some of the top performances of the night came from Junior Dewayne Gray. In the 60m, Gray clocked a 7.02 in the prelims to advance to the finals where he finished 8th with a time of 7.00. In the long jump Gray set a mark of 21' 8 earning 6th place and in the 200 he posted a time of 22.22 good for another 8th place finish.

Sophomore Kameron Mills had a strong race in the mile clocking a personal best time of 4:23.86, which is the 12th fastest time in school history. Sophomore Chris Conrad opened up the start of this season where he finished the indoor season last year clocking a 1:58.10 in the 800m.

The Freshman class had a good start to the season as well as Rayshard Brewer jumped 20' 3 in the long jump, Dan Deller ran 4:35 in the mile, Noah Haverdink also running the mile ran 4:37, Kelly Maxwell posted a time of 23.34 in the 200, Cameron Garrett posted a 52.98 in the 400, Maxx Lackie ran 9:26 in the 3,000, Kaleb Powell ran 1:28 in the 600 and Tim Canfield pole vaulted 13'9.

"Tonight was not where we hoped to be but was a great start to hopefully being at those performance levels for the MCC Conference Championship," said Ottolini.

The men will return to competition on Saturday, January 28th in Marian, IN at Indiana Wesleyan University.
