Men's Tennis - Sat, Apr. 13, 2013

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The men's tennis team played a round robin style tournament with Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College on Saturday and lost to GVSU 8-1 and defeated GRCC 8-1.

The lone win for the Cougars against Grand Valley was the #1 doubles team of David Darling and Aaron Mayes picking up the 8-6 win for the Cougars.

The Lakers won all six singles matches but three of the matches went three sets.  David Darling lost a heart breaker at the #1 singles spot to Andrew Darrell.  Darrell won the match 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.  Aaron Mayes also went three sets to GVSU's Francis Bartrand, 4-6, 6-0, 10-6, and John Hall went the distance before falling to BenEsh Nauta 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.

Spring Arbor picked up the pace against GRCC with an 8-1 win over the Raiders with Spring Arbor sweeping the doubles 8-3, 8-1, and 8-4 in the one, two, and three doubles teams respectively.

David Darling, Aaron Mayes, Matt Wojtkowski, John Hall, and Jesse DeBoer all won their singles matches in straight sets.

The Cougars record for the season is 16-5 for the year and will travel back to Grand Rapids on Tuesday to face Davenport University for a 3:30 match
