GRAND RAPIDS, MI – David Darling and Aaron Mayes both won singles and doubles matches for Spring Arbor University as the #25 ranked Cougars lost a very tough match to #24 ranked Davenport University 5-4.
After the doubles matches had been completed, Spring Arbor took a 2-1 advantage heading into the singles portion of the match. The team of David Darling and Nathan Scholten won a close match at one doubles 8-6 and Mayes and Matt Wojtkowski won at two doubles, also by the score of 8-6.
Needing to split the six singles matches to secure the win for Spring Arbor, Darling and Mayes playing one singles and two singles respectively, both won in straight sets and were the only two to pick up wins for the Cougars.
Davenport won four of the six singles, winning the match 5-4.
The Cougars fall to 16-6 for the year while Davenport improves to 15-6. The Cougars will host Indiana Tech on Saturday for a 10:00 match and will be the final home match for seniors David Darling, Aaron Mayes, and Nate Scholten. Senior, Thomas Calderone has been out with an injury.
