SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University track and field programs will host the Memorial Run for Quinten on Saturday, Sept. 17 in honor of teammate Quinten Greiner. Greiner, who just finished his sophomore year at SAU, tragically passed away earlier this summer in a car accident.

Quinten, a youth ministry major and newly named captain for the upcoming year, was one of a select few student-athletes chosen for the Young Leaders Retreat, an annual week-long trip to Two Moose Camp-Gainey Ranch in Glen, Montana that focuses on developing Christian leaders in the Cougar Athletic Department. He was on his way to the airport for the retreat when the crash occurred.

"Quinten was a true leader among his fellow Cougars on the SAU Track & Field team," said Jeremy Smith, the Director of the Track and Field and Cross Country programs at SAU. "He impacted my life and the lives of so many teammates and fellow students during his time at SAU. I also know he had a powerful impact in the lives of so many during his high school years and his work as a camp counselor at Warner Camp."

The memorial run will celebrate Quinten's life by doing what he loved! The event will start at the McKenna Carillon Tower and University Plaza at 1:59 p.m. – Quinten's personal-best time in the 800 meter run. Participants will have the option to do a two-mile run, or a two-mile off-road adventure run, which will feature cross country trails, a mud pit, a hill climb and 800 meters on the track, representing the event Quinten specialized in.

"Quinten was passionate about many things, like running, adventure, and fun with friends," added Smith. "Besides those, Quinten was passionate for people to experience the SAU community and for people to know how much Jesus loves them. This memorial run will honor our beloved teammate in many ways. Please come out and join us in honoring our fallen teammate and soldier, Quinten Greiner on Saturday, September 17th at 1:59 p.m. I'll look forward to seeing you."

The track and field programs are asking for a $5 minimum donation to participate, but all donations are welcomed. All proceeds from the run will go towards funding an endowed scholarship to honor the memory of Quinten. The goal of the Quinten Greiner Track & Field Memorial Scholarship Fund will be to provide deserving student-athletes with additional funding to attend SAU.

If cannot participate in the Memorial Run for Quinten, but would like to contribute to his scholarship fund, please contact the SAU Director of Track & Field, Jeremy Smith, at 517-750-6788, or by email or [email protected].
