LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team led No. 18 Bellevue University 2-0 heading into the seventh but the Bruins rallied for four runs to defeat the Cougars 4-2 in Friday's opener. SAU bounced back though, pounding out 13 runs and 16 hits in a lopsided 13-2 win over Warner University.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • A two-run home run by Nick Harris in the second inning gave Spring Arbor a 2-0 lead over No. 18 Bellevue.
  • Sophomore pitcher Duncan Patterson was spectacular on the mound. Patterson shut out the red-hot Bruins, who entered the game on a five-game winning sreak, over six innings while recording six strikeouts.
  • Down to its last three outs, Bellevue began to rally back. The first two batters reached to lead off the seventh inning before Todd Nicks hit a three-run home run to put BU on top. Before the inning was over, the Bruins would add another run on a homer by Diego Iribarren.
  • The Cougars were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but unable to do any damage.
  • James Hall was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double.
  • Despite the outstanding effort, Patterson suffered the loss surrendering four runs on five hits. He finished with six strikeouts and zero walks.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor bounced back right away after the heartbreaking loss.
  • The Cougars plated four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Jack Driscoll.
  • SAU would tack on four runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth to cruise to its third victory in the last four games.
  • Kyle Harris owned the Warner pitching staff posting four hits and three RBI. Tyler Reed went 3-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored and two RBI while Driscoll, Nick Harris and Francisco Ondina all picked up two hits each. Nick Harris has now hit safely in seven straight games, and in 10 of his last 11.
  • Freshman Andrew Manier delivered the second complete game of the day for the Cougars. Manier allowed just two runs in six innings of work while fanning four batters.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will play the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) (12-10) on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 11 a.m. with the winner moving on to play Bellevue in the final game of the Warner University Invitational.
