SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday, losing the first game 14-1 before falling 7-2 in the second game.

  • Indiana Wesleyan put the first game away early scoring 11 runs through the first two innings.
  • The Wildcats would add single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to bring the eight-run mercy rule into effect.
  • Spring Arbor scored its only run of the contest in the first inning. Megan Labut reached on a leadoff single and, two batters later, Sydney Taylor ripped a base hit into centerfield to plate Labut.
  • In addition to Labut and Taylor, Allison VanBrandt, Savannah Weaver and Liz Campeau all recorded hits.
  • Nicolette Thibodeau pitched the final three innings, surrendering two earned runs while striking out two batters.



  • Indiana Wesleyan jumped out on top again in game two, capitalizing for three runs on three SAU miscues.
  • The Wildcats led continued to add their advantage, leading by as much as 7-0.
  • Spring Arbor scored twice in the sixth inning. Kelsey Brown blasted her fourth home run of the season to put the Cougars on the board. Taylor followed with a double off the left field fence, and she would come around to score on a single by Weaver.
  • Weaver finished the game going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Brown also collected a pair of hits. With her double in the sixth inning, Taylor has now hit safely in eight of the last nine games.
  • Lauren Heath suffered the loss giving up seven runs – only four earned – over 5.1 innings of work. Thibodeau shut the Wildcats out over the final 1.2 innings.



Spring Arbor will host No. 4 ranked Marian University (34-2, 25-1 CL) on Saturday, Apr. 22. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
